Canada set up spy posts for U.S., new Snowden document shows

Canada has set up spying posts and conducted espionage at the request of the U.S. National Security Agency, according to top secret documents retrieved by US whistleblower Edward Snowden and reported exclusively by CBC News.

The information is contained in a four-page document marked Top Secret by the NSA and dated April 3, 2013. This makes it one of the freshest documents available in a trove of over 50,000 pages....

[My favourite line?  This one:]

CBC has decided not to publish much of the information in the document because the information would be harmful to Canadian national security....

This whole notion that the NSA tentacles reach far north of the US borders has long been a running gag in certain circles ( the NSA knows of whom I speak; the rest of you don't 'need to know'!)

This writer just finds it all quite amusing that the CBC even bothers to report this as if it is news.

An Afghan interpreter who spent five years serving with British Armed Forces has been granted asylum in Germany after the British Government said that it could not help him. 


Hashmatullah Nawabi, 26, said that he felt “betrayed” by Britain, adding: “I deserved help but they turned their back on me.”


Germany accepted that his life was under threat in Afghanistan because of his work with British forces, which included serving with the SAS...

The rest of this article is behind a pay-wall, but at this link there is the history of  this man's struggle to get what he has earned by his service to our Troops:  a safe haven in the country he worked for, at great risk to himself and his family.  Sadly, his story is not unique, as our governments have insisted on betraying our brave 'terps and yes, breaking any promises made to them. 


At a time when our governments continue to dishonour the service and sacrifices of our Troops and their families, I suppose we should not be surprised that they also continue to abandon the 'terps.


Surprised? No.  Disgusted?  Yes.

Christians continue to be murdered: America ("an Islamic country") remains silent

BANGUI, Central African Republic (AP) — Thousands of Christian civilians sought refuge at an airport guarded by French soldiers Friday, fleeing from the mostly Muslim ex-rebels with machetes and guns who rule the country a day after the worst violence to hit the chaotic capital in nine months. When several French helicopters landed at the airport, people sang with joy as they banged on plastic buckets and waved rags into the air in celebration.

Outside the barbed wire fences of the airport, bodies lay decomposing along the roads in a capital too dangerous for many to collect the corpses. Thursday's clashes left at least 280 dead, according to national radio, and have raised fears that waves of retaliatory attacks could soon follow.

"They are slaughtering us like chickens," said Appolinaire Donoboy, a Christian whose family remained in hiding....

I have wondered often why the Obama administration has remained silent, and not publicly denounced such barbarism. Quite apart from giving Muslim Brotherhood groups billions of dollars in aid, the simple answer may be found here:

A senior advisor to the Department of Homeland Security, Mohamed Elibiary, says that America is “an Islamic country” and continues to argue that the Muslim Brotherhood is comparable to Christian evangelicals.

Elibiary is a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council and was promoted in September. He also served on the Department of Homeland Security’s Countering Violent Extremism Working Group and the Faith-based Security and Communications Advisory Committee.

This week at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, the U.S. Department of Education spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to host a conference on federal student aid programs, spurning a call from a Republican Senator to cancel the 2013 Federal Student Aid conference as a way to save money in the face of automatic budget cuts from sequestration.

The gathering drew a visit by Education Secretary Arne Duncan, who told the Vegas conference that the existing financial aid system, "does not encourage students to stay in and complete school."
"Great to spend time yesterday with 6,000+ financial aid administrators," Duncan wrote on Twitter about his trip.   

The over 6,000 financial aid administrators at the Las Vegas conference were not federal employees - it is very important to note that - as this Federal Student Aid conference was aimed mainly at training for financial aid workers from schools around the nation, with a much smaller number of feds helping in what's described as "an instructional or support capacity."

But it still costs Uncle Sam a chunk of money to host this gathering and bring some employees out to Vegas for the conference.

Back in July, the Education Department told me the 2011 FSA training conference at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas cost the feds $1.6 million, while the 2012 conference held at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando clocked in at over $970,000....

There really IS A a lot more here, with FACTS that should make every parent's, and every taxpayer's,  blood boil.

British WW2 graves in France given new life

• Distinctive white stones not replaced since the end of World War II
• More than 8,300 graves will get new stones in time for D-Day anniversary

The gravestones of thousands of British and Canadian soldiers who died liberating France from Nazi rule are to be replaced in time for the 70th anniversary of D-day, it was announced yesterday.

A total 8,329 of the white limestone monuments are in need of repairing or to be replaced as some are in such poor condition is is impossible to read the soldier's name.

It follows President Francois Hollande inviting The Queen to be the centre of commemorations which takes place next year.

But their distinctive white limestone headstones have not been replaced since the end of the Second World War – leaving many in poor condition. 

William Moody, of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), said: ‘Often it's impossible to read what's written on them - like the name of the soldier, the regiment's insignia, the date of death, his age and his religion.’...

Detainee Transfer Announced

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

No. NR-047-13 December 05, 2013

The Department of Defense announced on Dec. 5 the transfer of Djamel Saiid Ali Ameziane and Bensayah Belkecem from the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay to the Government of Algeria.

As directed by the president's Jan. 22, 2009, executive order, the interagency Guantanamo Review Task Force conducted a comprehensive review of these cases. As a result of that review, which examined a number of factors, including security issues, these men were designated for transfer by consensus of the six departments and agencies comprising the task force. In accordance with congressionally-mandated reporting requirements, the administration informed Congress of its intent to transfer these individuals.

The United States is grateful to the Government of Algeria for its willingness to support ongoing U.S. efforts to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. [Yeah, emphasis mine]...The United States coordinated with the Government of Algeria to ensure these transfers took place with appropriate security and humane treatment assurances.

Today, 162 detainees remain at Guantanamo Bay.

Note that there is NO mention of these two returning to the frontlines of the Global War On Terror..We all know this will happen.
