Soldiers from 16 Air Assault Brigade and airborne troops from across the world gathered in Arnhem at the weekend to mark the 70th anniversary of Operation Market Garden. In September 1944 British and American troops landed behind German lines with the aim of capturing a string of Rhine river crossings, but met with strong resistance at the final bridge at Arnhem. Over 1,500 British soldiers were killed and nearly 6,500 captured. The picture shows paratroopers jumping onto the original British landing zone at Ede.
