AFGHANISTAN, Helmand: Konstabel Jacob Sten Lund Olsen was killed on Saturday 3 September 2011 in Afghanistan.

During a patrol near Gereshk in Helmand Konstable Olsen saturday afternoon was badly wounded by an IED explosion. Upon arrival at the field hospital at Camp Bastion was pronounced dead.

.. Jacob Sten Lund Olsen started defending 2. august 2010 in the training battalion at Gardehusarregimentet in Slagelse.

In December 2010 Jacob continued his education by armoured infantry company of the 25. July 2011, as gun shooter 2, to be broadcast with the Danish battle group hold 12 to Helmand in Bravo Company.

Konstabel Jacob Sten Lund Olsen was 22 years.

He is survived by his parents, girlfriend and six siblings.

As Denmark mourns, so do we all.

Rest in peace, Konstabel Olsen. You will be always remembered and honoured.

Fallen Soldiers remembered at York service

The 4th Mechanized Brigade returned from a six-month tour of Helmand in October and on Monday 6th December they paid their respects to the 72 fallen comrades at a memorial service in York Minster, including six Danish soldiers.

The service to remember the fallen took place in York Minster.

When in Afghanistan, soldiers from the Brigade worked hard alongside Danish soldiers to support the Afghan government to build a peaceful and resilient nation, training and mentoring the Afghan National Security forces, protecting the Afghan people and laying the conditions that will contribute to stabilisation efforts.

Around 600 military personnel, dignitaries and many relatives of those who died filled York Minster for a Service of Memorial and Thanksgiving. The service was also attended by the bereaved Danish families, who had been invited by the 4th Mechanized Brigade.


Families of the fallen Danish soldiers met The Prince of Wales.

The Prince of Wales joined the service along with Defence Secretary Liam Fox, Chief of the General Staff General Sir Peter Wall and military representatives of other Nations serving alongside the British in Afghanistan, including the Danish Defence Attaché.

The Reverend Benjamin Abeledo, senior chaplain to 4th Mechanized Brigade, paid tribute to the fallen.

He said: ‘We have gathered today in this house to give thanks for all who have served in Afghanistan with 4th Mechanized Brigade, and especially to honour and remember before God those who have died in the course of their duties.’

‘We thank God for the courage shown in the midst of intense conflict and for loyalty and service given to our nation.’
