9/11 Justice: Lawsuit against Saudis continues

The Saudi connection to 9/11, and the continuing demand for justice,  is not news.  It has been ongoing for years.  Now comes this reminder.

Was it all merely a coincidence?

One of the most salient and disturbing facts to emerge within hours of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks was that 15 of the 19 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia.

Without once mentioning Saudi Arabia, President Obama spoke at length last Wednesday before the United Nations about the need to crack down on extremist ideologies emanating from the Middle East But 13 years after the attacks, evidence continues to point not only to the involvement of Saudi extremists and terrorism financiers in the 9/11 attacks, but also perhaps to elements of the Saudi government itself.

This point is made chillingly clear in a new filing by Center City lawyers suing the government of Saudi Arabia for the attacks on behalf of the victims, insurers, and others who suffered grievous losses that day. The lawsuit by Cozen O'Connor has been discounted repeatedly by the Saudis' American lawyers, and by U.S. officials who have sought to quash it or otherwise frustrate efforts by the plaintiffs' lawyers.

For years, the administrations of President George W. Bush and Obama have blocked release of a report by Congress that details evidence of involvement in the plot by Saudi government employees.

But the Cozen lawsuit and the latest filing two weeks ago, based on newly acquired information through discovery and Freedom of Information Act requests, are unlikely to go away.[ emphasis mine]...

Aussie journalists could face 10 years in jail

New Australian law sees journalists facing 10 years in prison 

 Oct 2nd, 2014

Australia’s lower house of parliament has passed the first in a series of counter-terrorism amendments toughening the country’s national security law. The new legislation could see journalists jailed for reporting on related matters.

National Security Amendments Bill (No. 1), passed by Australia’s House of Representatives on Wednesday, says a person who discloses information relating to a special intelligence operation may face from five to 10 years behind bars.

Copying, transcribing or retaining records of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) is also outlawed, which is seen as a measure taken in the wake of Edward Snowden’s leaks of documents on the US’s National Security Agency.

Reporting on national security matters is being restricted simultaneously with more powers being granted to the country’s surveillance agency, with their power to monitor computers being expanded.

The government has justified the legislation as one boosting the country’s security in the wake of terrorist threat posed by the Islamic State extremist group (IS, formerly ISIS or ISIL)....

Disrespect for our Fallen is universal

Two really disturbing stories out about how some lowlifes dishonour the sacrifices of our Fallen Heroes.


First from the UK comes this one via the Daily Express:

Council pledge to 'name and shame' skateboarders who trashed newly-restored cenotaph
FURY was sparked after skateboarders "defiled" a city's newly-restored cenotaph within days of it being unveiled.Jan Disley Wed, October 1, 2014


The skateboarders knocked the edges off the stone and left wheel marks and scratches [MEN]
The culprits turned the refurbished war memorial into a common skate park - knocking the edges off its high-quality stone and leaving wheel marks and scratches.

Some are said to have been grown men in their 30s rather than teenagers.

And in a troubling sign an official "friends of the cenotaph" group has been set up to help educate people about the significance of the monument - despite this year marking both the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

Meanwhile vandals also daubed brand new benches nearby with bizarre graffiti - sporting the baffling slogan "new bench b***ards".

The senseless destruction at Manchester's St Peter's Square and the surrounding area is expected to cost £4,000 to repair and has left local community leaders fuming.

The council said the money was less of an issue than the "disrespect and offence caused"...

(CBS) – Residents of southwest suburban New Lenox cannot believe it: Vandals heavily damaged a beloved veterans memorial over the weekend.

“They pushed it over to point where it actually fell and broke,” Vietnam veteran Larry Paveza tells CBS 2’s Jim Williams.

Four monuments — honoring the Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marines — were shoved over at the memorial, despite their size and weight.

Locals wonder: Why would vandals destroy what people here have called sacred ground since its dedication 10 years ago? The memorial honors service members who once lived in the area and died in conflicts from the Civil War to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“I couldn’t believe someone would do such a thing — to strike against the veterans of the United States,” veteran Tom Weigel says....

Wednesday Hero

Admiral Oscar Badger II68 years old from Washington, D.C.
June 26, 1890 - November 30, 1958


During his 41 years of service, Admiral Oscar Badger II saw action in the U.S. occupation of Veracruz as well as both World Wars. He was awarded four Legion of Merit awards, the Navy Cross as well as the Medal Of Honor.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives just so that we may get to enjoy our freedom. For that I am proud to call them Hero.
