Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox has welcomed the announcement by the Danish Government of an agreed way forward for its troop contribution in Afghanistan over the next two years.

The Danish Parliament has agreed the 'Helmand Plan 2011' which involves a gradual shift in military efforts from combat to training with a focus on developing the Afghan National Security Forces.

The UK Ministry of Defence has been working closely in past weeks with its Danish counterparts in the run up to this announcement and welcomes the prospect of an enduring Danish military commitment to the ISAF campaign into 2014 and beyond.

There are 750 Danish troops in Helmand and they have been working alongside UK troops since 2006....
