Black Hawk Unit Gets Welcome Home From Afghanistan In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A California National Guard Black Hawk unit got a big welcome home in Sacramento after serving nine months in Afghanistan.

CBS13 was there as 15 soldiers’ family and friends greeted them right after landing at Sacramento International Airport.

It was an emotional day for the families who have waited nearly a year for their loved ones to return.

“Words don’t even describe it,” said soldier Kevin Vinatieri.

The members of the California National Guard Unit medevac team were on standby every day answering calls to take the wounded off the battlefield.

“Always on duty, medevac standby waiting for any Afghani nationals all the way to obviously our personnel,” said Sgt. Cody Weaver....

4th Brigade welcomes home 105 soldiers

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – The 4th Brigade Combat Team (BCT) welcomed 105 Soldiers home to Fort Campbell on Sunday, January 26 at Campbell Army Airfield. It was a very special welcome home ceremony since it was the last group of “Currahee” Soldiers returning from their deployment to Afghanistan.


The ceremony was also historic because it wrapped up the last mission for the 4th BCT before the brigade’s inactivation scheduled for later this spring. The returning Soldiers include Easy Company from the HBO Mini-series “Band of Brothers”.

The dark and the cold of the early morning didn’t diminish the spirits of the family and friends of the Soldiers as they returned. There were the usual cheers as the plane landed and shouts of welcome home as the doors to the aircraft opened and the Soldiers walked toward the hangar....

Pictured: 1 RHA, escorted by the Royal Artillery Band march through the streets of Doncaster.

Crowds of people lined the streets of Doncaster today to welcome home the soldiers of the 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, following their recent tour of Afghanistan.

An Artillery gun used by the regiment in Afghanistan was fired over the city to signal the start of the parade that also marked the end of a decade on military operations.

Accompanied by the Band of the Royal Artillery, the 250 soldiers led by 22 horses from the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery paraded outside the Civic Hall where 22 troops were presented with their Afghanistan operational medals.

Turns out another unit just made it home.

201st Engineer Battalion of the Kentucky National Guard returned home Thursday night from a year-long deployment in Afghanistan. (That's from my friend Janet!!)

Ky. National Guard back home

ASHLAND, Ky. -- The $1,500 phone bills at Dawn Easterling's home will be over now that her husband is home from Afghanistan.

Easterling, a dispatcher for the Lawrence County Ohio Sheriff's Department, talked with her husband, Todd, a sheriff's deputy every day, sometimes two or three times. Todd and 420 other members of the 201st Engineer Battalion of the Kentucky National Guard returned home Thursday night from a year-long deployment in Afghanistan.

They were met by hundreds of family members and friends along with Gov. Steve Beshear at Boyd County Middle School Thursday evening.

"It's been a long year," Dawn Easterling said. "I'm so glad it's over. He called me every day. ..
