Video: 9/11 Survivor Tree blooms again - 'this tree is still here, as we are still here'
Visitors to the national September 11 Memorial pass the Survivor Tree, Tuesday, at the World Trade Center. One World Trade Center, now up to the 93rd floor, is scheduled for completion in 2013. The callery pear, salvaged from the rubble following the attacks of September 11, 2001, was nursed back to health and replanted at the National September 11 Memorial. (Associated Press)
The charred trunk of a callery pear tree was pulled from the smoldering rubble of the World Trade Center site after the 2001 attacks. The tree earned the name Survivor Tree and has grown to become a living reminder of resilience, survival and rebirth.
