The Defense Department has launched a new online preregistration website for parents who want to get an early start with enrolling their children in Department of Defense Education Activity schools, DOD officials said. One of the new site's advantages is that it will allow parents to preregister from anywhere in the world, even while moving from one military installation to another, said Mike Lynch, DODEA chief of policy and legislation. The secure site is open to parents who have students entering prekindergarten through 12th grade.“We want to reduce the time it takes to register children for school,” Lynch said. “This way, the school can be ready the day the parents get there so they can get in and out quicker.”Parents can preregister children even if they don’t know the exact school their children will enter, Lynch said. On the site, parents can choose options ranging from certain communities to specific DODEA schools, he said.DODEA intends the site to aid new enrollments rather than reregistration, Lynch said. “An online reregistration application is something we’re looking at developing for next school year.”
