BritishForcesNews on May 24, 2011Female Engagement Teams are a new addition to the British Battlegroups across Helmand. The specialist servicewomen are now embedded in all the main locations and patrol out on the ground alongside their male colleagues. Their role is to engage with Afghan women and to help them they are learning animal husbandry techniques, taught by Veterinary Officer Captain Laura Holmes. Lessons focus on caring for the most common animals found in Helmand such as goats, chickens and cows. They also focus on the kind of problems to look out for. The servicewomen hope that through the animals they can tap into one half of the population which is all too often ignored.
