Unsterile equipment used on Miami veterans

This one came from my inbox. TexasFred always has his eye on things that usually make me livid. His email starts:

If you are a veteran, if you know a veteran, if you have family that is a military veteran, if you care anything at all ABOUT veterans, this story will piss you off, and that is my intent. I hope some of you fine folks burn up your Congressmen and Senators emails and fax machines with your opinions...

And then we get to the meat of what has TexasFred (and me) almost beyond angry:

More than 3,000 who had colonoscopies at VA hospital told to get HIV tests

MIAMI - Officials say more than 3,000 patients at a Veterans Affairs hospital in Miami had colonoscopies with equipment that wasn’t properly sterilized

They’ve been told they should be tested for HIV and other diseases.

The VA insists the risk of infection is minimal and only involved tubing on equipment, not any device that actually touched a patient. But it’s the second recent announcement of errors during colonoscopies at VA facilities.

Last month, more than 6,000 patients at a clinic in Tennessee were told they may have been exposed to infectious body fluids during colonoscopies.

The VA also said 1,800 veterans treated at an ear, nose and throat clinic in Augusta, Ga., were alerted they could have been exposed to an infection due to improper disinfection of an instrument.

This is nothing less than a travesty. Our veterans have given this nation everything they have, their health, their sanity, their arms, legs, eyes, they have given us everything they have to give, they answered the call. This is how WE take care of THEM?...

Take your blood pressure meds (see? I am warning you!), go read the rest HERE and THEN get on your phones, hit the emails, and DO something about this. Our veterans deserve BETTER.

Get on it.

and on a side note...about a month, or so, ago there was another alert by the VA in Murfreesboro, TN & Atlanta, GA in regards to the same issue. They used equipment that wasn't sterilized correctly for colonoscopies and endoscopies. My husband and two of my brothers in law all had colonoscopies at a VA facility and even though the VA where they had theirs hasn't been mentioned from what we understand that it is a widespread incident that is being "investigated". And to make this even more troublesome, this issues is dated back to 2004. How many of our veterans have been exposed?

And America WANTS government healthcare??? I can assure this is what you will get!!
